In addition to being a national industry and a contributor of
the national economy, the machinery industry has evolved over
past decades into being a mainspring of the rapid growth. Until
1970, the Korean machinery industry relied heavily on foreign
capital and technology. Howerer in 1973, the Korean government
established a massive industrial complex at Changwon, located
in the Gyeongnam Province. This complex was originally developed
to jump start the national economy and today we can see the
direct effects of this endeavor with 1,350 manufacturers and
a production net worth of US$ 31 billion.
The machinery industry as a whole has rapidly developed and
positioned Korea into a higher realm of world industrial production.
Notably, Korea is first in the world in shipbuilding, fifth
in steel production and automobile manufacturing, and 12th in
total trade volume.
This is not a miracle, as some experts may have stated, but
rather the result of Korean ingenuity and hard work.
Presently, the focus is on strengthening productivity through
technological development and renovation. In this regard, innovation
and the adoption of up-to-data technology are needed to meet
the increasing demand for high-tech machinery. KOAMI's goal
is to keep our business cycles high as global competition intensifies.
